    Hello,
I participated in the 2014 Columbia Gorge Challenge. I would to suggest that you include a competitor class for 60 and older!!! In some paddle races there is a Master or Grand Master Class. The age for this class is often 65 and older. When I paddled in the Gorge Challenge in 2014 I met other paddlers who were in their 70’s. I believe one woman I met was 72 years old at the time! I am 69 years old and feel that by including a Masters class you would encourage “older” paddlers to participate!
You guys put on a great event. I am looking forward to participating in this years event and have encouraged young and “older” paddlers from California’s Central Coast to attend and participate in The Columbia Gorge Challenge!
    Best regards
    Jim
    Thanks

    Hi Jim,

    Thanks for contacting us.

We don’t really choose the age classes anymore, we just follow what the WPA has set up. We want to support their system, so there is a valid national ranking system so the sport can develop and grow in an organized manner. I know many of our racers don’t care about national rankings, but the WPA has put a lot of thought into their system, to find one that works for the most people.

That being said, their system might evolve over time, so I encourage you to check in on their latest info, and even give feedback to them.

Thanks, and we hope to see you Aug 20, 21 this year!

Update to age classes: We are adding 60+ age groups to all Open races, Men and Women.

No excuses now Jim. Bring ’em on!

    See you in August…

    Thanks,
    Doug

For the super grom boys (my boy is 9 years old) can they use a 10’6 instead of 12’6? for the course race? It would be 2 laps or 1 lap?

He can use any board that is no more than 12’6″. So 10’6 is fine.

Grom/Super Grom is usually 1 lap/1 mile. Subject to change.
